3D Max for Interior Design course

The course is designed for 3D graphics and visualization in interior design. During the training there is an opportunity to create your own real interior project in 3D.

Program of the course 3D Max

Topic 1: “Introduction to 3D. Creating and transforming simple objects in 3DMax”.
History of development of 3D MAX and its practical purpose. The structure of the 3D Max interface. Basics of creating objects in 3D Max, setting their parameters and their transformations. Modifying objects’ parameters, working with exact dimensions. Transforming objects, transformation matrices.

Topic 2: “Integration of 3D Max with ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Revit and other programs
Methods of integration of 3Ds MAX, ArchiCAD and AutoCAD. Transferring layout drawings from ArchiCAD/AutoCAD to 3DsMAX and adding a third dimension to them. Transferring 3D objects from 3D MAX to AutoCAD for the purpose of dimensioning and printing the drawing.

Topic 3: “Service operations with objects. Rules for building complex scenes in 3D Max. Compound objects in 3D Max”.
Setting units of measurement. Auxiliary objects: points, rulers, grids. 3D Max coordinate systems. Grouping and hierarchical linking of objects – various possibilities. Creating arrays of objects, mirror copies and object alignment. Boolean and ProBoolean modules – subtraction and addition of three-dimensional objects.

Topic 4: “Architectural Extended Primitives. Modifiers of 3DMax objects. Plane modeling of three-dimensional objects”.
Creating ready-made walls and their modification in the 3D course. Creating and adjusting vegetation. Creating various fences and fences according to a specified path. Creating ready-made stairs. Object modifiers – a stack of modifiers.

Topic 5: Creating Loft – objects in the course 3D Max. NURBS modeling (complex surfaces in 3D graphics)
Lofting – the creation of complex objects from several shapes in the course of three-dimensional graphics. Proper preparation of lofting sections. Editing lofting sections. Lofting object optimization. Practical examples of the use of lofting in the 3D Max course.

Topic 6: Patch and Mesh modeling in the course 3D Max.
Patch surfaces in the 3D Max course. The EDIT PATCH modifier. The various methods of editing patches. SURFACE and CROSS-SECTION modifiers. Creating a mesh of splines for SURFACE modifier to work. Converting PATCH into MESH. Methods for creating 3D organic objects in the course using PATCH-techniques. MESH – modeling: the basic 3D Max course technique.

Topic 7. “POLY and Surface – modeling in the course 3D
Techniques for creating complex, beautifully smoothed objects in the 3DMax course with EDIT POLY + TURBO SMOOTH. The BRIDGE command. Chamfers and seams: CHAMFER and EXTRUDE. WELD, TARGET WELD and COLLAPSE commands. Advanced POLY – modeling technique: copying (stretching) the edges of an object.

Topic 8: “Working with Materials”.
Organization of work in the material editor. The Material Editor: creating various materials. Basic Material Properties. Assigning materials to objects. Using standard material libraries. Types of materials – Standard, Top-Bottom, Multi-Sub Object, etc. Material shading – Blinn, Oren-Nayar-Blinn, Metal, Anisotropic, Multi-Layer. Reflection and refraction of images in a material. Material maps. A detailed study of the possibilities of Standard material. Creation of various types and purposes of materials using different maps.

Topic 9: Camera and Scene Lighting. The Environment.
Creating and configuring camera sets. Configuring views through the eyes of the shooting cameras. The concept of a lighting model. Subtleties of computer modeling of lighting. Light sources in the 3D Max course. Creating light sources: Omni, Spot and Direct. How to illuminate outdoor scenes. Features setting shadows. Limiting light range. A spotlight map. Various methods of calculating light.

Topic 10. “Using the VRay renderer for working with scenes”.
General information about VRay renderer. Materials for VRay, their features. Staging light with VRay, VRayLight, VRaySun, VRayIES settings. Self-lighting objects. Setting up daylight, evening light, features of lighting objects in an open space. Backlit rooms.
A practical exercise: setting up materials and light for a two room apartment.

Topic 11. “Visualization with VRay”.
General information about VRay rendering. Materials for VRay, their features. The composition of daylight, the optimal settings for the sun. Special render settings for dark and light 3D interiors. Complex lighting settings, a combination of warm and cool. VRay render rough and finish settings. Step by step instructions for the final VRay settings for an interior. Mistakes when rendering an interior in 3D Max

Topic 12. “Fundamentals of animation in a 3D Max course. 3D Max animation modifiers. Optical effects”.
Panoramic rendering – a powerful effect of presence in the room. The basic principles of animation in the program. Animation of simple objects. Animating the camera using the path. Creation of a fly-through of a room. Setting up the clip rendering.
